This is useful for sending commands to other devices on the network such as power distribution units (PDUs) when alerts occur. By sending a URL Web Request to a device such as a PDU, Device ManageR can automatically turn power outlets on or off when environment extremes occur, preventing costly damage to the systems or devices connected to the PDU.<\/p>\n<p>To set up a URL Web Request action in Device ManageR, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<p>1. Open Device ManageR in your web browser. You may open it by entering &#8216;localhost:8080&#8217; or &#8216;&lt;IP address of Device ManageR&#8217;s host system&gt;:8080&#8217; in your browser&#8217;s address bar.<\/p>\n<p>2. Select <strong>Alerts \/ Tasks<\/strong> in the navigation bar to the left.<\/p>\n<p>3. In the <em>Settings<\/em> menu, select <strong>Actions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>4. Select <strong>Add<\/strong> at the bottom of the screen to open the <em>Add New Action<\/em> window.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/AlertsTasks.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8927\" src=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/AlertsTasks.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/AlertsTasks.png 989w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/AlertsTasks-300x72.png 300w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/AlertsTasks-768x185.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>5. In the <em>Add New Action<\/em> window, enter a name for the action in <em>Name<\/em>. In our example, we&#8217;ve called the action &#8216;My URL Web Request.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>6. <em>(Optional)<\/em> In <em>Description<\/em>, you may, if you wish, enter any notes you feel would be helpful.<\/p>\n<p>7. In <em>Action Type<\/em>, select the action you wish to execute from the drop-down list. Once you make your selection, options unique to that action will appear.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; In <em>Action Type<\/em>, select <strong>Send URL Web Request<\/strong> from the drop-down list. The unique options for this action type are the <em>Web Request URL<\/em> and <em>Message<\/em> fields.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; In <em>Web Request URL<\/em>, enter the fully qualified URL that will be accessed when this action is performed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; <em>(Optional)<\/em> In <em>Response<\/em>, you may, if you wish, enter the expected HTTP response when the URL specified is accessed. This is useful for verifying that the target\u00a0URL was accessed properly and the remote device executed the desired command.<\/p>\n<p>8. In <em>If not successful, retry this Action<\/em>, you may leave the default, 0, or enter a higher number.<\/p>\n<p>9. <em>(Optional)<\/em> If you wish, you may associate a schedule with this action by selecting <strong>Optional Schedule<\/strong> and choosing a schedule from the drop-down list. (If you attach a schedule to the action, it can be performed only during the hours you&#8217;ve set up in the Optional Schedule.)<\/p>\n<p>10. Once you&#8217;ve saved, your action will appear in your <em>Actions<\/em> list.<\/p>\n<p>You may now associate this action with an Action \/ Notification List.
