otherwise the default port is not displayed in the web address. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div> <div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-fancy su-spoiler-icon-plus su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span>Tips for working with the DEFAULT certificate<\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the default certificate for your Room Alert, your web browser expects to see &#8220;.roomalertmonitor.com&#8221; within the web address.<br><br>For best performance within the device&#8217;s web interface, you should set up a hostname for your device that includes the &#8220;.roomalertmonitor.com&#8221; domain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using a hostname with the .roomalertmonitor.com domain<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can either setup a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/roomalertmonitor.com\/\">roomalertmonitor.com<\/a> zone in your local DNS or add an entry to your local computer&#8217;s hosts file. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"su-note\"  style=\"border-color:#bcc3cd;border-radius:5px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px;\"><div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"background-color:#d6dde7;border-color:#ffffff;color:#305d8c;border-radius:5px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px;\">\n\n\n\n<p>Because the instructions for editing your DNS differ according to the server being used, this FAQ does not walk you through that process.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Add an entry to your hosts file<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>These instructions apply to Windows 10 and Windows 8 systems. If you&#8217;re using a different Operating System, you can find the proper instructions by doing a Google search for &#8220;add entry to hosts file + &lt;your operating system&gt;&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Go to <strong>c:\\Windows\\System32\\Drivers\\etc<\/strong> on your computer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the <strong>hosts<\/strong> file in a text editing program, such as Notepad.\n<ul>\n<li>You&#8217;ll need to run the text editing program as an administrator in order to save your changes later.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add a new entry for your Room Alert monitor.\n<ul>\n<li>Be sure to include the domain, .roomalertmonitor.com, so that your browser recognizes the SSL certificate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In our example, we want our hostname to be &#8220;ExampleRA32S.roomalertmonitor.com&#8221; You must ensure the certificate matches how users access the device and is trusted by their systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you choose to use your own certificate instead of the default:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-regular\"><table><thead><tr><th>Component<\/th><th>What You Need To Do<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Navigation <\/strong><br><strong>(DNS \/ Hostname)<\/strong><\/td><td>Make sure the certificate matches how users access the device (example: <code>mydevice.local<\/code>).<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Identity (SAN Field)<\/strong><\/td><td>Include the device\u2019s hostname or IP address in the <strong>Subject Alternative Name<\/strong>.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Authority (Signature)<\/strong><\/td><td>Ensure the certificate is trusted by the client (browser\/PC).
