Years of scientific research has demonstrated the <\/span>effectiveness of using UV light<\/span><\/a> to sanitize and disinfect the air and surfaces to keep people and communities safe. We wanted to put the <\/span>Room Alert Mobile UV System<\/span><\/a> through rigorous testing to demonstrate the effectiveness of its UV light sanitation. The COVID-19 pandemic and concerns that have come along with it need no introduction. 2020 has proved to be a year of unexpected challenges both in business and personal life. The current Coronavirus pandemic along with the routine flu season and other factors have really put an emphasis on the importance of disinfecting spaces that harbor germs and bacteria such as populated areas like school classrooms, public restrooms, banks, restaurants, gyms, and beauty salons…essentially any location where people go and share common air, space and surfaces. It is crucial to keep spaces such as these safe through routine and comprehensive cleaning so that we can work together to recover from COVID-19, the flu, and all future viruses and bacteria. <\/span><\/p>\n UV-C light is proven to be effective in inactivating many viruses, specifically COVID-19. This report published by <\/span>Nature Research<\/span><\/a> discusses how Germicidal ultraviolet light \u201cefficiently kills pathogens\u201d such as airborne influenza virus and \u201csimilar inactivation efficiency against other human coronaviruses including SARS-CoV-2.\u201d Another report published by the <\/span>National Institute of Health<\/span><\/a> found that \u201cafter exposure to the UV light source, the virus was frozen for later analysis by TCID50 assay using CPE as the endpoint.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n By working with partners in Ireland, the <\/span>Room Alert Mobile UV System<\/span><\/a> was developed to create a mobile, affordable, easy-to-use and effective method for disinfecting and sanitizing air & surfaces to keep people safe from harmful viruses and bacteria. Killing microbes and inactivating viruses is simple, easy and safe with the <\/span>Room Alert Mobile UV System<\/span><\/a>!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n As previously discussed, UV-C light has been soundly proven in lab environments, but our customers have been asking specifically how effective is AVTECH’s <\/i><\/span>Room Alert Mobile UV System? In an attempt to demonstrate our Room Alert UV effectiveness, we set up a series of in-house experiments <\/span>(photos below). First, we started by setting up the Room Alert Mobile UV System in a controlled facility environment. We then measured out various distances from the UV system (5 ft, 10 ft, 15 ft, and 20 ft) to show how the effectiveness of the UV light varies depending on the distance from the unit. From there we decided to conduct two different experiments, one with Petri dishes and another with UV dosimeters.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n For the first in-house experiment, we used Petri dishes and UV light to see whether there was bacteria growth or a lack of bacteria growth based on Room Alert Mobile UV System exposure <\/span>(photos below). For our set up we used cheek swabs to introduce standard bacteria to the Petri dishes. We then placed all but one of the Petri dishes at various distances from the Room Alert Mobile UV System unit, all in the same environment. Next, we exposed the Petri dishes to our UV-C light for 15 minutes. One Petri dish was our controlled variable, so it was not exposed to any UV-C light at all. The Petri dishes that were exposed to the appropriate amount of UV-C light at the standard recommended distances showed that there was no bacteria growth. However, the Petri dish that was not exposed to UV-C light did experience bacteria growth. From this, we were able to show that exposure to our Room Alert Mobile UV System prevented bacteria growth due to UV-C light exposure. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n For AVTECH’s second in-house experiment, we used <\/span>UV dosimeters<\/span><\/a> that show a change in color based on the strength of UV-C exposure <\/span>(photos below). First, we set up UV dosimeters again at the same exact measured distances as the Petri dishes in our first experiment – dosimeters were placed at distances of 5 ft, 10 ft, 15 ft, and 20 ft. Then, we ran AVTECH’s Room Alert Mobile UV System for the same 15-minute cycle that the Petri dishes were exposed to. Color changes were noted on all four UV dosimeters, proving that UV-C light was able to reach them up to 20 feet away. The Room Alert UV-C technology administers a dose of 22mJ\/cm2 at 3m distance from the unit, at a run time of 15 minutes. This dosage is recommended by the <\/span>National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory at Boston University<\/span><\/a> to help inactivate SARS-CoV-2.
