Device ManageR can log sensor and alert data to external databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQL Server.\u00a0Follow the steps below to configure MySQL for use with Device ManageR.<\/p>\n

Step 1: Run The MySQL Installer<\/a><\/p>\n

Step 2: Set Up Your Database In The MySQL Workbench<\/a><\/p>\n

Step 3: Set Up Device ManageR<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

<\/a>Step 1:\u00a0Run The MySQL Installer<\/h4>\n

1. Download and run the\u00a0MySQL installer from https:\/\/www.mysql.com. In our example, we are using MySQL Community Edition.<\/p>\n

2. When the License Agreement<\/em> appears, select I accept the license terms<\/strong>, and then select Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3. In\u00a0Choosing a Setup Type<\/em>, select Custom<\/strong>. (We’re going to install only what we need for Device ManageR and nothing else.)<\/p>\n

\"ADM_MySQL_ChoosingaSetupType\"<\/a><\/p>\n

4. In Select Products and Features<\/em>, select the version of\u00a0MySQL Server<\/strong> and MySQL Workbench<\/strong>\u00a0appropriate for your Windows operating system. (Use the right-facing arrow to move them from the Available Products<\/em> box into the Products\/Features To Be Installed<\/em> box.) Then select Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

5. If the\u00a0Check Requirements <\/em>windows appears,\u00a0<\/em>select Execute<\/strong>\u00a0to attempt to resolve any failing requirements. Then select Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

6. In Installation<\/em>, select Execute<\/strong>. Wait for MySQL Server and MySQL Workbench to install. Once their status is Complete<\/em>, select Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0In Product Configuration<\/em>, select Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

8. In Type and Networking<\/em>, select Server Machine<\/strong> in the Config Type<\/em>\u00a0drop-down menu. Then select Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

9. In Accounts and Roles<\/em>, enter the “root” user’s password. If you wish, you may use Device ManageR with the “root” account.<\/p>\n

\"ADM_MySQL_Accounts&Roles_Root\"<\/a><\/p>\n

a. Typically, however, you’ll create a new account for Device ManageR to use. To do so, select Add User<\/strong> in the Accounts and Roles<\/em> window.<\/p>\n

\"ADM_MySQL_Accounts&Roles_AddUser\"<\/a><\/p>\n

b. Enter the username and password, and select OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"ADM_MySQL_MySQLUserDetails\"<\/a><\/p>\n

c. Then select Next <\/strong>in the Accounts and Roles window.<\/p>\n

11. In Windows Service<\/em>, leave the defaults, and\u00a0select Next.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"ADM_MySQL_WindowsService\"<\/a><\/p>\n

12. In Plugins and Extensions<\/em>, leave the defaults, and select Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"ADM_MySQL_Plugins&Extensions\"<\/a><\/p>\n

13. In Apply Server Configuration<\/em>, select Execute<\/strong>; then, once the configuration is complete, select Finish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"ADM_MySQL_ApplyServerConfiguration_Completed\"<\/a><\/p>\n

15. In Product Configuration<\/em>, select Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

16. In Installation Complete<\/em>, select Finish<\/strong>. The MySQL Workbench will launch.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/strong>Step 2: Set Up Your Database In The MySQL Workbench<\/h4>\n

1. When the MySQL Workbench opens, right-click on the grey Local Instance<\/em>\u00a0box. Select\u00a0Edit Connection<\/strong> from the drop-down menu that appears.<\/p>\n

2. In Manage Server Connections<\/em>, enter the username you created earlier in the\u00a0Username<\/em> field.\u00a0(You can also use the MySQL “root” user if you prefer.)\u00a0Then select Close<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

5. Select the grey Local Instance<\/em>\u00a0box. When the Connect to MySQL Server<\/em> dialog box appears, enter the user’s password.\u00a0Then select OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

7. When the MySQL Workbench<\/em> window opens, select the Create new schema<\/strong> button. (“Schema” is MySQL’s term for “database.”)<\/p>\n

a. In Name<\/em>, enter a name for your database in all lower-case letters. We’re going to call ours “devicedb.”<\/p>\n

b. Select Apply<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

8. In the\u00a0Review SQL Script<\/em> window that appears,\u00a0select Apply<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

9. In Apply SQL Script<\/em>, select Finish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Step 3: Set Up Device ManageR<\/h4>\n

1. Open Device ManageR in your web browser.\u00a0You may open it by entering ‘localhost:8080’ or ‘<IP address of host system>:8080’ in your browser’s address bar.<\/p>\n

2. Select Settings<\/strong> in the navigation bar to the left.<\/p>\n

3. In the Settings<\/em> menu, select Advanced<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

4. In Database Settings<\/em>, follow these steps:<\/p>\n

a. In Database Type<\/em>, select MySQL<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

b. If\u00a0Device ManageR and MySQL are installed on the same computer, leave “localhost” in Host Name or IP Address<\/em>, as we have in our example.\u00a0Otherwise, enter MySQL’s hostname or IP address.<\/p>\n

c. In Database Name<\/em>, enter the name you gave your MySQL database in earlier steps. Our example is called “devicedb” (in all lowercase letters).<\/p>\n

d. In Database Port<\/em>, enter your MySQL database port.\u00a0The default for MySQL is 3306, which is what we retained in our example.<\/p>\n

e. In Database Username<\/em>, enter the username you created earlier. In our example, our username is “ITManager.”<\/p>\n

f. In Database Password<\/em>, enter the password you gave to that username.<\/p>\n

5. Select Save Settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

6. The Export Logged Database Data<\/em> dialog box will appear, asking if you’d like to export your currently-logged data to your new MySQL database.<\/p>\n

a. If you do want to export your existing data, select Export.<\/strong><\/p>\n

– When the confirmation message appears, select OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"ADM_Settings_Advanced_DatabaseSettings_ExportDataConfirmation\"<\/a><\/p>\n

– You’ll see progress bars at the top of the Device ManageR window showing the progress of the export. Depending on the size of your existing database, the export can take from a few minutes to up to several hours.<\/p>\n

\"ADM_Settings_Advanced_DatabaseSettings_ExportProgressBars\"<\/a><\/p>\n

b. If you don’t want to export your existing data, select Save Settings<\/strong>. You’ll start fresh with an empty MySQL database.<\/p>\n

Note that you can test Device ManageR’s connection to your MySQL database any time (after you save your settings) by selecting Test Database Connection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
