{"id":5331,"date":"2016-08-08T14:58:41","date_gmt":"2016-08-08T18:58:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/?p=5331"},"modified":"2025-01-06T13:03:57","modified_gmt":"2025-01-06T18:03:57","slug":"reboot-room-alert-monitor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/5331\/reboot-room-alert-monitor\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Reboot A Room Alert Monitor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rebooting\u00a0your Room Alert Monitor is a good place to begin troubleshooting any issues you may experience.<\/p>\n<p>There are two ways to trigger a reboot:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Power cycle units that are:<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"#powered_power_adapter\">powered with\u00a0AVTECH\u2019s 5V power adapter<\/a><br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"#powered_battery_backup\">powered with internal battery backup<\/a><br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"#powered_poe\">powered with PoE<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Use the\u00a0<a href=\"#through_telnet_menu\">Telnet menu<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Power Cycle Your Room Alert Monitor<\/h3>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><a class=\"wpsal-anchor\" name=\"powered_power_adapter\" id=\"powered_power_adapter\"><\/a><\/strong>Units Powered with AVTECH\u2019s 5V Power Adapter (No Battery Backup)<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If your Room Alert Monitor is powered with AVTECH\u2019s 5V power adapter and does not have an internal battery backup, follow the instructions below to power cycle it.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>First, disconnect the power adapter from the Room Alert Monitor\u2019s power port for approximately 10 seconds.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Power_Port_Closeup.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5355\" src=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Power_Port_Closeup-239x300.jpg\" alt=\"Power_Port_Closeup\" width=\"120\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Power_Port_Closeup-239x300.jpg 239w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Power_Port_Closeup.jpg 326w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 120px) 100vw, 120px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2. Then, plug the power adapter\u00a0back in.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><a class=\"wpsal-anchor\" name=\"powered_battery_backup\" id=\"powered_battery_backup\"><\/a><\/strong>Larger Models with Battery Backup<\/h4>\n<h5 style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em><strong>Room Alert 32S &amp; 32E\/W<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">On the Room Alert 32S and 32E\/W, a push button next to the power port turns the unit\u2019s internal battery backup on and off. To power cycle this unit:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Battery_Backup.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5356\" src=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Battery_Backup-218x300.jpg\" alt=\"Battery_Backup\" width=\"109\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Battery_Backup-218x300.jpg 218w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Battery_Backup.jpg 454w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 109px) 100vw, 109px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">1. First, set\u00a0the button to the OFF\u00a0position.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">2. Next, disconnect the power adapter for approximately 10 seconds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">3. Then, plug the power adapter\u00a0back in.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em><strong>Room Alert 26W<\/strong><\/em><\/h5>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">The Room Alert 26W has an automatic internal battery backup that cannot be turned off. To power cycle this unit:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">1. First,\u00a0disconnect the power adapter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">2. Then,\u00a0wait until the battery backup runs out of power.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><em>You will know the battery backup is off when the Green LED next to the network port goes dark.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">3. After the battery backup turns off, wait approximately 10 seconds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">4. Then, plug the power adapter\u00a0back in.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><a class=\"wpsal-anchor\" name=\"powered_poe\" id=\"powered_poe\"><\/a><\/strong>Units Powered with\u00a0PoE<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If your unit is powered with\u00a0PoE,\u00a0follow the instructions below to power cycle it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Note that if your Room Alert 32S or 32E\/W is powered with PoE, you must turn off the unit&#8217;s battery backup before power cycling.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Power_Network_Port.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5357\" src=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Power_Network_Port-300x189.png\" alt=\"Power_Network_Port\" width=\"239\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Power_Network_Port-300x189.png 300w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Power_Network_Port.png 665w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 239px) 100vw, 239px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1. First, disconnect the Ethernet cable from the network port for approximately 10 seconds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Note that if the unit is running on PoE and has AVETCH\u2019s 5V Power Adapter connected, you will need to disconnect <strong>both<\/strong> the power adapter and Ethernet cable.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2. Then, reconnect the Ethernet cable.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><a class=\"wpsal-anchor\" name=\"through_telnet_menu\" id=\"through_telnet_menu\"><\/a><\/strong>Reboot the Room\u00a0Alert Monitor Through the Telnet Menu<\/h3>\n<p><em>* Not available on the Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi, Room Alert 32S, 12S or 3S.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you cannot power cycle the Room Alert Monitor, you\u00a0can force the unit to reboot through the Telnet menu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>You must have Telnet enabled on your Windows system in order to complete the steps below. Telnet is disabled by default in Windows versions Vista and above. Please see our FAQ <a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/191\/enable-telnet-windows-versions-vista\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">How To Enable Telnet In Windows (Versions Vista And Above)<\/a> for help.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To reboot the\u00a0unit:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1. Open Windows Command Prompt, which you may find at the following path: <strong>Start<\/strong>&#8211;&gt; <strong>All Programs<\/strong>&#8211;&gt; <strong>Accessories<\/strong>&#8211;&gt; <strong>Command Prompt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>If you are using Windows 8 or above, you must run Windows Command Prompt as an administrator. To do so, right-click on Command Prompt in the step above and select Run as administrator from the drop-down menu that appears. This will open Windows Command Prompt with administrator privileges.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2. At the prompt enter the following command,\u00a0as shown in the example below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">telnet &lt;IP address of the unit&gt; 9999<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Reboot_Telnet1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5385\" src=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Reboot_Telnet1.png\" alt=\"Reboot_Telnet1\" width=\"600\" height=\"139\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Reboot_Telnet1.png 640w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Reboot_Telnet1-300x69.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">3. If you are prompted for your Room Alert Monitor password, enter it and then press the <strong>Enter<\/strong> key on your keyboard. Otherwise, simply press <strong>Enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Reboot_Telnet2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5377\" src=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Reboot_Telnet2.png\" alt=\"Reboot_Telnet2\" width=\"600\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Reboot_Telnet2.png 640w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Reboot_Telnet2-300x90.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>You must press <strong>Enter<\/strong> within a few seconds or you&#8217;ll get a &#8216;Connection to host lost&#8217; message. If you see that message, press <strong>Enter<\/strong> to get the prompt back and re-enter the telnet command from Step 2.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">4. The Telnet menu will appear\u00a0as shown below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">5. At the <em>Your choice?<\/em> prompt, enter <strong>4<\/strong>, which corresponds to &#8216;Reboot Unit.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Reboot_Telnet3.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5378\" src=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Reboot_Telnet3.png\" alt=\"Reboot_Telnet3\" width=\"600\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Reboot_Telnet3.png 642w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Reboot_Telnet3-300x204.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">6. Enter <strong>Y<\/strong> when the confirmation message appears.
