Faulty HVAC, burst pipes, backed up sewer lines, damaged roofs and foundations, and many other possibilities can all cause flooding within your facility.

We’ve published multiple articles recently about reasons to install flood sensors as well as information on adding flood monitoring to your business continuity plan. It comes in two different cable lengths: users can opt for the Flood Sensor with 8’ Cable, the Flood Sensor with 24’ Cable or the Flood Sensor with 50′ Cable. Users can also purchase Flood Cable Extensions, which connect to an existing Flood Sensor to extend the monitoring cable to up to 200 feet.

Additionally, the Flood Sensor itself can be placed up to 900’ away from your Room Alert by extending the cable that connects the sensor to Room Alert with any reliable low voltage 2-wire cable, such as speaker wire. This allows users to place the Flood Sensor with Cable in the exact location it’s needed to help warn of water or liquid being detected.

The Flood Sensor with Cable will send an alert notification through Room Alert if liquid is detected anywhere along the length of the sensor cable. It’s ideal for protecting sensitive equipment such as server racks. The Flood Sensor with Cable can also be placed around equipment that may potentially leak, such as HVAC units or freezers. Or, users can opt to place the sensor cable along lengths of wall that may be prone to leaking, or even wrap the cable along a pipe that might be a concern.

Regardless of where you install it, the Flood Sensor with Cable will help protect your facility against water damage by notifying you immediately when liquid is detected anywhere along the sensor cable. It’s the perfect solution for larger areas with sensitive equipment that need protection against water damage.

Spot Flood Sensor

We also offer a Spot Flood Sensor that’s designed to notify users if water or liquid is detected in a specific area. It’s a great solution for the low point in a floor, or a specific area where pumps or drainage are a known issue within a facility.

The Spot Flood Sensor comes standard with a 25’ cable to attach to your Room Alert, and just like the Flood Sensor with Cable, users can extend the sensor up to 900’ away from your Room Alert if necessary. This will allow you to monitor basements, attics, or even remote storage locations to help warn you if water is detected.

This particular Flood Sensor is powered by an included 9v battery, so you can rely on it to work in even the most remote areas that may not have electricity available.

Flood damage comes from more than just floods

It’s been a sobering experience to see the damages inflicted by the recent hurricanes, Harvey and Irma. If your facility is hit by a natural disaster, flood sensors may not be able to fully protect your critical assets, however they can give you a definite timeframe as to when the damage began to occur. This will allow you to better implement your disaster recovery plan, and help to speed up your recovery time.

One important fact to remember is that organizations are 10x more likely to suffer from flood/water damage than they are from fire or smoke damage. As we noted earlier in the article, flood damage comes from a wide number of possible environment issues. Monitoring for water detection can help your organization quickly address any potential damage from a leak, or even help you enact some proactive maintenance if a small leak is detected.

Any downtime your organization faces costs you time, money, and effort. Help lessen the impact of any water damages by installing flood sensors today, long before the thought of water damage becomes a reality. Always remember that proactive monitoring is far better than reactive repairs!

Recent inclement weather events including hurricanes, extreme weather, and strong storms have caused a surge in interest in flood sensors.
