How To Configure A Relay Action In Device ManageR

You can configure Device ManageR to toggle relay outputs on and off for a Room Alert’s built-in Relay, an external Relay Switch or the Relay on the external Light Tower & Relay Adapter.

Enabling Your External Relay

Before you can set up Toggle Relay actions in Device ManageR for the external Relay Switch or the Relay on the external Light Tower & Relay Adapter, you must enable your Relay Switch or Light Tower in your Room Alert.

The instructions below show you how to enable the Relay Switch in your Room Alert:

1. Open your Room Alert Monitor’s web interface. You may open the interface using Device Discovery, Device ManageR or your account at RoomAlert.com. You may also type the IP address of the unit directly into the address bar of your web browser.

2. Select the Settings tab from the navigation bar to the left.

3. Then select Alarms in the Settings menu.

4. In LTA Connected, select Relay from the drop-down menu.

5. In LTA Label, you may leave the default or enter a name for your Relay. In our example, we’re calling it ‘Relay Switch 1.’

6. Select Save Settings at the top or bottom of the page. Your Room Alert will reboot with your changes saved.

Setting Up Relay Actions In Device ManageR

Then, to set up Relay actions in Device ManageR, follow the steps below. We’re going to set up two actions in our example: one to turn Relay 1 on and another to turn it off.

1. Open Device ManageR in your web browser. You may open it by entering ‘localhost:8080’ or ‘<IP address of host system>:8080’ in your browser’s address bar.

2. Select Alerts / Tasks in the navigation bar to the left.

3. In the Alerts / Tasks menu, select Actions.

4. Select Add to add your first action.

5. In the Add New Action window:

– In Name, enter a name for the action. In our example, we’ve called the action ‘Relay Switch – Relay 1 On.’

– (Optional) In Description, you may enter any notes you feel would be helpful to explain the action.

– In Action Type, select the action you wish to execute from the drop-down list. Once you select the action type, options unique to that action will appear. In this example, we’re choosing Toggle Signal Tower or Relay.

– In Device, choose your Room Alert.

– In Toggle the, choose the feature you wish to toggle. In our example, we’re choosing LTA 1 – Relay 1.

– Then choose On or Off. For our first action, we’re choosing On.

– In If not successful, retry this Action, you may leave the default, 0, or enter a higher number.

– (Optional) If you wish, you may associate a schedule with this action by selecting Optional Schedule and choosing a schedule from the drop-down list. (If you attach a schedule to the action, it can be performed only during the hours you’ve set up in the Optional Schedule.)

– Then select Save to save the action.

Repeat this process to add the toggle actions you require. In our example, we’ve added two toggle actions:

Creating An Action / Notification List For Your Relay Actions

Once you’ve saved your toggle actions, the next step is to put them in an Action / Notification List. For more information, please see the next FAQ, How To Configure Action/Notification Lists In Device ManageR.

Your Action / Notification List may appear something like the one shown below, with the Relay toggling on during an alarm condition, and off on clear.
