Before you configure your dial-out modem action, please do the following:
– Download and install the Dial Out Plugin Bundle. If you’ve purchased this plugin bundle, it is available for download from your account at RoomAlert.com.
– Configure and test your dial-out modem in Device ManageR. This FAQ shows you how: How To Configure External Modems In Device ManageR.
Note that there are 3 types of dial-out modem actions:
– Dialing a phone directly and playing dial tones (Send Alert Via Modem Dial Out – Use Direct Dial Out).
– Sending a text message using a TAP service (Send Alert Via Modem Dial Out – Use TAP Dial Out).
– Dialing a phone directly and playing the alert text aloud (Send Voice Alert Via Modem Dial Out).
You may create a dial-out modem action by following these steps:
1. Open Device ManageR in your web browser. You may open it by entering ‘localhost:8080’ or ‘<IP address of Device ManageR’s host system>:8080’ in your browser’s address bar.
2. Select Alerts / Tasks in the navigation bar to the left.
3. In the Settings menu, select Actions.
4. Select Add at the bottom of the screen to open the Add New Action window.
5. In the Add New Action window, enter a name for the action in Name.
6. (Optional) In Description, you may, if you wish, enter any notes you feel would be helpful.
7. In Action Type, select the action you wish to execute from the drop-down list. Once you make your selection, options unique to that action will appear.
– In Action Type, select Send Alert Via Modem Dial Out.
– In Contact, choose a contact from the drop-down list that has phone numbers entered in Dial Out Settings in their contact record.
– In Dial Out Options, select Use Direct Dial Out.
– In Initialization String, you typically may leave the default (&FQ0V1X4&D2S38=10). This string of characters configures the modem so that Device ManageR can use it; the default string works with most modems.
– In Message Pause, you may leave the default, 1 second, or enter a higher number. This number is the number of seconds the modem pauses between each dial tone in the message.
– In Message, you may leave the default (@111,1,1,1,111,,111,1,1,1,111) or edit it if you wish. This default message is similar to ‘SOS’ played in dial tones: each comma in this message is a pause, and each number is a tone.
– In Action Type, select Send Alert Via Modem Dial Out.
– In Contact, choose a contact from the drop-down list that has phone numbers entered in Dial Out Settings in their contact record.
– In Dial Out Options, select Use TAP Dial Out.
– In Initialization String, you typically may leave the default (&FQ0V1X4&D2S38=10). This string of characters configures the modem so that Device ManageR can use it; the default string works with most modems.
– In Message, you may leave the default or edit it if you wish. You may enter your own text or insert new keywords by clicking the Click To Insert A Keyword button.
– In Action Type, select Send Voice Alert Via Modem Dial Out.
– In Contact, choose a contact from the drop-down list that has phone numbers entered in Dial Out Settings in their contact record.
– In Message Pause, you may leave the default, 3 seconds, or enter another value (above 0).
– In Repeat Message, you may leave the default, 0, to have the alert text played only once, or enter another value (above 0) to have the alert text repeated.
– In Repeat Intro Sound, you may leave the default, 0, to have the introductory sound played only once, or enter another value (above 0) to have the introductory sound repeated.
8. In If not successful, retry this Action, you may leave the default, 0, or enter a higher number.
9. (Optional) If you wish, you may associate a schedule with this action by selecting Optional Schedule and choosing a schedule from the drop-down list. (If you attach a schedule to the action, it can be performed only during the hours you’ve set up in the Optional Schedule.)
10. Then select Save to save the action.
11. Once you’ve saved, your action will appear in your Actions list.
You may now associate this action with an Action / Notification List. Please see this FAQ for more information: How To Configure Action / Notification Lists In Device ManageR.
