Rebooting your Room Alert Monitor is a good place to begin troubleshooting any issues you may experience.
There are two ways to trigger a reboot:
If your Room Alert Monitor is powered with AVTECH’s 5V power adapter and does not have an internal battery backup, follow the instructions below to power cycle it.
2. Then, plug the power adapter back in.
On the Room Alert 32S and 32E/W, a push button next to the power port turns the unit’s internal battery backup on and off. To power cycle this unit:
1. First, set the button to the OFF position.
2. Next, disconnect the power adapter for approximately 10 seconds.
3. Then, plug the power adapter back in.
The Room Alert 26W has an automatic internal battery backup that cannot be turned off. To power cycle this unit:
1. First, disconnect the power adapter.
2. Then, wait until the battery backup runs out of power.
You will know the battery backup is off when the Green LED next to the network port goes dark.
3. After the battery backup turns off, wait approximately 10 seconds.
4. Then, plug the power adapter back in.
If your unit is powered with PoE, follow the instructions below to power cycle it.
Note that if your Room Alert 32S or 32E/W is powered with PoE, you must turn off the unit’s battery backup before power cycling.
1. First, disconnect the Ethernet cable from the network port for approximately 10 seconds.
Note that if the unit is running on PoE and has AVETCH’s 5V Power Adapter connected, you will need to disconnect both the power adapter and Ethernet cable.
2. Then, reconnect the Ethernet cable.
* Not available on the Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi, Room Alert 32S, 12S or 3S.
If you cannot power cycle the Room Alert Monitor, you can force the unit to reboot through the Telnet menu.
You must have Telnet enabled on your Windows system in order to complete the steps below. Telnet is disabled by default in Windows versions Vista and above. Please see our FAQ How To Enable Telnet In Windows (Versions Vista And Above) for help.
To reboot the unit:
1. Open Windows Command Prompt, which you may find at the following path: Start–> All Programs–> Accessories–> Command Prompt.
If you are using Windows 8 or above, you must run Windows Command Prompt as an administrator. To do so, right-click on Command Prompt in the step above and select Run as administrator from the drop-down menu that appears. This will open Windows Command Prompt with administrator privileges.
2. At the prompt enter the following command, as shown in the example below:
telnet <IP address of the unit> 9999
3. If you are prompted for your Room Alert Monitor password, enter it and then press the Enter key on your keyboard. Otherwise, simply press Enter.
You must press Enter within a few seconds or you’ll get a ‘Connection to host lost’ message. If you see that message, press Enter to get the prompt back and re-enter the telnet command from Step 2.
4. The Telnet menu will appear as shown below.
5. At the Your choice? prompt, enter 4, which corresponds to ‘Reboot Unit.’
6. Enter Y when the confirmation message appears. You’ll then see a message that the unit is rebooting.
You may find Windows Command Prompt at the following path:
To run Windows Command Prompt as an administrator:
