How To Use The Room Alert 3E’s PoE in Use Button

Using a Room Alert 3S or 12S? Please click here for the appropriate FAQ.

When your Room Alert 3E runs on PoE, it generates some additional heat, which is difficult to dissipate in the unit’s small enclosure. The PoE in Use button, located in the Room Alert Monitor Network Settings page, automatically adjusts for this heat difference.

Enable the PoE in Use button

If your Room Alert 3E is running on PoE and reading approximately 10° Fahrenheit higher than expected, please follow these instructions:

1. Open your Room Alert Monitor’s web interface. You may open the interface using Device Discovery, Device ManageR, or your account at RoomAlert.com. You may also type the IP address of the unit directly into the address bar of your web browser.

2. Navigate to Settings–>Network in the navigation bar to the left.

3. In the Network Settings page, locate the Power Over Ethernet (PoE) section, and select the PoE in Use check box.

4. Then select Save Settings at the top or bottom of the page. Your Room Alert Monitor will automatically reboot and commit your changes.

5. After the unit reboots, navigate to the Room Alert Monitor Status page to view the adjusted sensor reading.

6. If needed, you may further adjust the reading by following the instructions in our FAQ, How To Adjust A Sensor Reading On A Room Alert Monitor.

7. Once this is done, no further changes are needed and you should see the temperatures reported by the Room Alert Monitor track accurately with the outside temperature of the room.
