How To Configure SNMPv3 On Your Room Alert 32S, 12S & 3S

If your SNMP monitoring application uses SNMPv3, you can configure your Room Alert 32S, 12S or 3S to match. For more information, please see the tabs below:

How To Configure Your Device Settings

In order to configure SNMPv3, your Room Alert 32S must be running firmware v1.1.0 or higher. For instructions on how to update your device, please see How To Update Firmware On Room Alert Monitors.

Follow these steps to configure SNMPv3 settings on your Room Alert Monitor:

  1. Open your Room Alert Monitor’s web interface by typing the IP address of the unit directly into the address bar of your web browser.
  2. Select Settings in the navigation bar to the left.
  3. Then select SNMP from the options below Settings.
  1. In the SNMP Settings page, select the Use SNMPv3 checkbox.
  2. Once this checkbox is selected, you’ll see the SNMPv3 Configuration section appear on the page.
  1. The default Security Level is With both authentication and privacy.
    • You may select a different Security Level from the drop-down menu.
Please see the Tips & Recommendations section in this FAQ for additional information.
  2. Depending on your chosen Security Level, you’ll see some or all of these additional fields:
    • In Username, enter the username that’s configured in your SNMP monitoring program.
    • In Authorization Protocol, select the protocol that your SNMP monitoring program is configured to use.
      • The default is HMAC MD5 authentication protocol.
    • In Authentication Password, enter the authentication password that’s configured in your SNMP monitoring program.
    • In Privacy* Password, enter the privacy password that’s configured in your SNMP monitoring program.
  3. Select Save Settings at the top or bottom of the page. Your Room Alert will automatically reboot and commit your changes.

* Your SNMP program must be configured to use the AES privacy algorithm.

Tips & Recommendations

Some SNMP clients have restrictions with v3 communications that affect how they interact with Room Alert Monitors. For best results, we recommend the following:

1. Choose a more-secure configuration level.

Configure your device to use either of these Security Levels:

  • With both authentication and privacy
    or
  • With authentication but no privacy

Although the Room Alert firmware additionally supports the less-secure option, No authentication or privacy, this level is not fully supported by some SNMP clients.

2. Configure your credentials for Read-Only functionality.

Within the SNMP client, configure Read-Only credentials for your Room Alert device. Some SNMP clients (like SolarWinds, for example) cannot support Write SNMPv3 functionality with the Room Alert firmware.
