It seems like everyone is jumping to the cloud. When it makes life easier for the IT or data center manager, that’s a great thing. And if it’s backed by a company with a 26-year history of providing products to some of the most secure organizations, you’ll have peace of mind.

That’s the goal of AVTECH’s GoToMyDevices.com cloud-based tool, which helps you manage Room Alert monitors and sensors anywhere, anytime, from any mobile device or PC.

Eliminate Hurdles

“Environmental monitoring is one of the things people put off to the last minute until they have a problem. They don’t want to find a solution and then have it take a lot of their time,” says Michael Sigourney, President and CEO. “It’s not so complicated anymore.”

GoToMyDevices needs little configuration. Room Alert monitors ship enabled for DHCP, which will auto-connect to a network and push secure sensor data to GoToMyDevices. “You open the box, connect your Room Alert device, and log on to use it,” he says. There’s no software to install or email server to configure. Simply enter the email address you want to send environmental alerts and reports to and then define what sensors you want to send alerts for.

Heavy Lifting

With GoToMyDevices, Sigourney says, AVTECH does all the heavy lifting. “We’re going to be using our email server, with communication stored and handled through a secure hosting service. Customers don’t have to worry about that.”

AVTECH customers include all branches of the military, government, and other highly secure environments, says Richard Grundy, Vice President and Director of Engineering. “We’re carrying that history, that capability, all of those lessons we’ve learned over the past 26 years about properly handing data, protecting it, restricting access. Those are all concepts and ideas getting carried into this platform.”

Responsive Design

With GoToMyDevices’ responsive design, Grundy says, “You can log into your account through a mobile phone, tablet, notebook, or desktop PC and get a consistent presentation.” Once you log in, you’ll see a dashboard that summarizes key information such as the highest and lowest temperature or humidity level of any device connected to any sensor within your environment, Grundy says. “A lot of customers will log on and never leave the dashboard page.”

If you need more information, you can customize the view or use the reporting capabilities. For example, Grundy says, you could dig deeper and take data from any device connected to any sensor anywhere and graph data from multiple sensors together on one screen. You can schedule these reports to automatically run and be sent to you.

The GoToMyDevices timeline adds to the tool’s convenience, Grundy says. “As devices come online, as users log in, as new sensors are connected, as any type of activity happens, you’ll see that activity on the timeline,” he says, complete with general statistics on devices connected, sensors being monitored, and datapoints being collected.

Sigourney sums it best: “We put it all in a pretty interface, and the user only needs to be interrupted if there’s a problem.”
