How To Retrieve Logs From An Axis Camera

You may need logs from your Axis camera to troubleshoot an issue in your RoomAlert.com account or the Device ManageR software.

To retrieve the logs, follow the instructions below:

Step 1: Discover your Axis camera.

Step 2: Open your camera’s web interface.

You may open your camera’s web interface in the following ways:

– Type the camera’s IP address directly into your browser’s address bar.

– Open the Devices tab of your RoomAlert.com account, select your camera and then select the Device Interface button.

– Use the manufacturer’s software from https://www.axis.com/Axis IP Utility or Axis Device Manager.

– If you are already using AVTECH’s Device ManageR software, select your camera from your Discovered Devices list and then select Open Web.

Step 3: Get the application log(s) and camera server report.

For issues in RoomAlert.com, get these files:

Axis Video Motion Detection application log

GoToMyDevices Image Push application log

– Server Report

For issues in Device ManageR, get these files:

Axis Video Motion Detection application log

– Server Report

 

Follow the instructions below to navigate to the log(s) and server report. How you get to them depends on your camera’s firmware version range.

v6.x.x and lower camera firmwarev7.x.x and higher camera firmware

If you camera is v6.x.x or below, you’ll see Live View | Setup | Help on the right side of the banner at the top of the screen.

Get the application log(s)

Follow these steps to get the log(s):

1. In your Axis camera’s web interface, select Setup in the top right of the page that opens.

2. Select Applications in the navigation bar to the left.

3. Under Installed Applications, highlight the application you need the log for by clicking on it once.

4. Select Log.

5. The log will appear in a pop-up window. Right-click inside that window and select Save as.

6. Save the log as a .txt (text) file somewhere you can easily find.

7. Attach the log(s) to an email to Support@AVTECH.com.

Get the server report

Follow these steps to get the server report:

1. In your Axis camera’s web interface, select Setup in the top right of the page.

2. In the navigation bar to the left, navigate to System Options→ SupportLogs & Reports.

3. In the Logs & Reports page, select Download Server Report. (You may leave Include snapshot from Live View blank.)

4. A .zip file with the report will download to your computer, typically to your computer’s Downloads folder.

5. Attach that .zip file to an email to Support@AVTECH.com.

If you camera is v7.x.x or above, you’ll see 3 icons on the right side of the banner at the top of the screen.

Get the application log(s)

Follow these steps to get the log(s):

1. In your Axis camera’s web interface, select Settings in the lower right corner of the screen.

2. In the navigation menu at the bottom of the screen, select Apps.

3. In the Apps menu, select the application you need the log for.

4. Locate the Controls panel in the upper half of the screen. You may have to scroll to find it.

5. In Controls, select Application log.

6. The log will load in the same window. Right-click inside that window and select Save as.

7. Save the log as a .txt (text) file somewhere you can easily find.

8. Attach the log(s) to an email to Support@AVTECH.com.

Get the server report

Follow these steps to get the server report:

1. In your Axis camera’s web interface, select Settings in the lower right corner of the screen.

2. In the navigation menu at the bottom of the screen, select System.

3. In the System menu at the bottom of the screen, select Maintenance. You may need to use the right/left arrows to find it.

4. Locate the Reports panel in the top half of the screen. You may have to scroll to find it.

5. In the Reports panel, select Download the server report.

6. A .zip file with the report will download to your computer, typically to your computer’s Downloads folder.

7. Attach that .zip file to an email to Support@AVTECH.com.

To run Windows Command Prompt as an administrator:

  • Windows 7 & 8
    Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
  • Windows 10
    Right-click on Command Prompt, select More and then select Run as administrator.

If you are using this client, you should configure the general SNMPv3 Credentials, but leave the Read / Write SNMPv3 Credentials section blank.
