Room Alert Supports OSHA’s New 2024 Compliance Standards

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration isn’t wasting any time, starting off the new year with much anticipated stricter compliance standards regarding worker safety. As of January 2nd, 2024, certain employers in high-hazard industries must submit more injury and illness information to OSHA.

OSHA’s new reporting requirement applies to a wide range of industries from hospitals and healthcare businesses, to manufacturers, retail businesses (including grocery and department stores), warehousing and storage businesses and more. Beginning in March, those affected establishments must submit detailed information about recordable workplace injuries and illnesses from the prior calendar year using OSHA’s new filing system, Injury Tracking Application (ITA).

This announcement also comes just in time to fall under new OSHA penalty amounts that recently took effect on January 16th, 2024. Now, OSHA’s maximum penalties for serious and other-than-serious violations will increase from $15,625 per violation to $16,131 per violation. It has never been more important (and financially advantageous) to meet OSHA compliance standards.

Room Alert Environment Monitoring Is Critical To Following OSHA Best Practices

The primary goal of OSHA is to help employers provide safe and healthful working conditions for employees. This is achieved by mandating standards across a variety of safety categories. For example, since 2022, OSHA has implemented a National Emphasis Program regarding Outdoor and Indoor Heat-Related Hazards. This is because millions of U.S. workers are exposed to heat in their workplaces and heat is the number one cause of weather-related death in the workplace. Heat-related illnesses caused by high heat index are a top safety concern and Room Alert is ready to help!

Environment monitoring is the best method for proactively overseeing the conditions within your workplace environment, and ensuring they are suitable. The Room Alert ecosystem consists of monitors, sensors, accessories, and software that all work together to offer a comprehensive solution for heat illness prevention. Room Alert offers many different sensor options that can monitor conditions in several safety categories such as temperature, humidity, heat index, flood, power, airflow, smoke and more.

In Manufacturing Facilities & Other High Heat Settings

If you are a manufacturer, then you are required to comply with OSHA’s newest updates and regulations. You likely have hot local heat sources, like furnaces, in your factory where your employees spend hours at a time. They are probably melting substances like metal or glass and using machinery that can become extremely hot. At just 80 degrees Fahrenheit (26 degrees Celsius), fatigue is possible with prolonged exposure and/or physical activity. At 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius), heat stroke, heat cramps, or heat exhaustion is possible with prolonged exposure and/or physical activity.

Even before outdoor temperatures and protective clothing that holds in body heat compounds the problem, this environment can quickly lead to heat-related hazards. OSHA’s new heat standards specifically call out indoor workers without climate-controlled environments. With Room Alert installed in your facilities, you can maintain a climate-controlled environment while also gaining valuable insight into patterns. Room Alert stores historical sensor data which enables trend analysis and the ability to address patterns or recurring issues.

OSHA recommends that employers maintain a temperature between 68 degrees and 78 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees to 25 degrees Celsius). You can configure Room Alert to notify you and your team if the temperature reaches outside of the appropriate range. Furthermore, Room Alert can quickly turn on a fan or AC unit to bring down the heat, increase air circulation and immediately address potential heat threats.

Meet industry compliance and strengthen your long-term business continuity planning, risk assessment & preventive measures with Room Alert environment monitoring.

Safety & Compliance In 2024

As noted in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) annual 2023 report, last year was the warmest year since global records began in 1850 at 1.18°C (2.12°F) above the 20th century average of 13.9°C (57.0°F). This trend is only expected to continue. OSHA compliance is now more critical than ever due to the intersection of stricter regulations, climate change, stringent penalties and the broader societal emphasis on safety and ethical business practices. We hope that businesses, facilities and organizations of all kinds and sizes kick off the new year with an increased focus on compliance and employee safety.

Our team is happy to help you find the perfect Room Alert solution for your unique application, so you can take on OSHA’s current (and future) mandates with confidence.
