Is Room Alert Right For Your Business?

No business wants to suffer from downtime, data loss, or outages, regardless of their size or their industry. Downtime means lost revenue, reduced customer confidence, and in the case of 40% of small to medium businesses, potential permanent closure within 1 year.

Organizations take great steps to prevent downtime – installing firewalls, updating anti-virus software, working with IT and security consultants, and developing business continuity plans are all critical to maintaining uptime.

Environment monitoring is an integral part of any business continuity plan; after all, nearly 30% of all downtime is caused by environment factors such as temperature, humidity, flood, power, smoke, and more. Proactive monitoring of those environment factors with Room Alert can help drastically reduce the potential for outages and data loss.

Room Alert proactively monitors environment conditions on your behalf and can instantly alert you and your staff to any conditions you’re monitoring that may be approaching a threshold that can lead to downtime or damage. Historically, data centers have been one of our largest user bases, however over the last few years we’re seeing more industries and smaller businesses adopt Room Alert as part of their business continuity plan.

If you’re not proactively monitoring your organization’s environment to protect against downtime, here are 3 key reasons why Room Alert is perfect for your business.

Low cost, high levels of protection

Room Alert monitors begin at well under $200, and many of our most popular sensors such as Temperature & Humidity and Active Power w/Temperature come in at less than $100.

While the cost to purchase Room Alert may be low in relation to the value of the equipment and data it’s protecting, the costs it can save your organization from incurring if it were to experience downtime can be staggering. A recent survey showed that 98% of organizations say a SINGLE HOUR of downtime costs over $100,000 . An investment of a few hundred dollars to save 6 figures in potential losses is a wise investment, indeed.

All Room Alert monitors are designed with flexible expansion in mind. Room Alert monitors all have the ability to monitor temperature right out of the box, and have a combination of available ports to connect sensors that matter most to your particular facility. Concerned over potential water leaks in your basement office? Install a Flood Sensor w/Cable. Do you have a freezer that contains critical medication or lab work? Plug in a Digital Fluid Temperature Sensor to ensure that the freezer temperature stays within your recommended range.

Easy to install and use

Room Alert users range from multi-site international corporations right through single locations with under 5 employees. It’s important that Room Alert can be used by all types and sizes of organizations, so it has been designed to be up and running in mere minutes.

There are no complicated steps required to install and configure Room Alert, from our least expensive Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi all the way through our flagship model, the Room Alert 32E. All our hardware has been designed to be easily configurable by someone with limited to no IT experience, and we also put all of our documentation online for users to refer to any time.

Our YouTube channel is filled with helpful installation videos and tutorials to help all our users get the most out of Room Alert. While a growing number of Room Alert users are purchasing and installing their monitors and sensors with the help of an outside IT firm or MSP, we still have a large amount of users who have a need to set up Room Alert as soon as possible after a downtime event occurs, and we want to make that process as smooth as possible.

Monitor and alert using any (or all) of our tools, or one of your own

Providing monitors and sensors is a big part of helping our users protect their organizations against environment-related downtime, and having the tools to actively manage the devices, set up reports, and create alerts is vital to proactive monitoring.

We provide every Room Alert user with four different ways that they can monitor and manage their Room Alert reports, settings, and custom alerts.

  • Room Alert firmware – Each Room Alert monitor has easily-accessible firmware that users can log into at any time to set alert thresholds, modify sensor settings, and much more. In fact, many of our customers use Room Alert as standalone devices, and monitor and receive alerts directly from Room Alert.
  • RoomAlert.com Account – Every Room Alert user has access to a non-expiring free account on our RoomAlert.com online monitoring service. RoomAlert.com can be accessed from anywhere in the world using any internet-accessible device, allowing our users to see the status of their monitors, sensors, and alerts at any time. RoomAlert.com Account users can also opt to upgrade to a higher tier of service if they need more functionality, such as custom alert settings or a larger number of reports or alerts.
  • Device ManageR software – Room Alert users can download our Device ManageR software for additional local management and alerting. Device ManageR is fully developed and supported from our Rhode Island office, making it an easy and secure way to monitor your facility. Additional plugins are available through Device ManageR which allow users to set automatic corrective actions in the event an alert is triggered, such as turning on a pump if water is detected, or a fan if smoke is detected.
  • Third-party SNMP software – We recently published an article on how Room Alert can seamlessly fit into an existing DCIM platform. MIB files for our monitors are readily available, making it very easy to integrate Room Alert into your existing DCIM software, or any other monitoring application (for a longer list of compatibility, please see this article https://avtech.com/articles/8961/room-alert-snmp-software-compatibility/). If your organization does not currently use monitoring software, then any of our three included options can be used to help monitor your Room Alerts and your facility.

Room Alert can protect any business from down time

Business continuity is more than just installing a firewall and making sure your data is backed up offsite. There are a number of processes and steps required to helping ensure your organization can weather (or even better, prevent) downtime successfully, and environment monitoring is a key aspect in those plans.

Downtime and data loss can happen to businesses of every size, in any industry. As we noted at the beginning of this article, those downtime episodes can cost your organization hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost revenue, productivity, and customer confidence. Investing in Room Alert for proactive environment monitoring is a sound decision, especially if you do not have any monitoring in place to notify you if temperatures in freezer become too high, or humidity in your server room is nearing the point that can lead to sensitive equipment failure.
