The Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi is one of our most popular models and allows for wireless temperature monitoring with a wide range of uses. It’s compact size and “plug and play” setup make it a perfect temperature and humidity monitor for locations without a wired network connection.
When we first introduced the Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi a few years ago, we expected it to do well with small businesses and even some residential users. What we quickly learned was that our customers who wanted wireless temperature monitoring over WiFi had far more uses in mind than we anticipated.
A number of our clients have put the Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi to great use in helping protect their facilities and assets. In fact, we’re even using that model as well for some remote wireless monitoring in one of our own facilities!
Who can benefit when they set up a Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi to monitor temperature, humidity and more wirelessly?
We’ve previously talked about how we monitor all of our data centers with Room Alert, and after the introduction of the Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi we began using that model as well.
Our headquarters is located in a historic mill built in 1868 that was renovated for our office use in 2008, and we wanted the building to retain as much original character as possible. Our building has a very large attic that currently contains some operations equipment and is also used for storage.
Since there aren’t any network drops in the attic, we decided to install a few Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi monitors so we could keep an eye on the temperature, as well as any potential water leaks from the roof. Because the attic already had power for the operations equipment, it was quick and easy to plug in a few Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi monitors with Flood Sensors and begin immediate monitoring. Anyone in AVTECH Operations can quickly and easily see the environment conditions in the attic, which is a benefit in this area that’s prone to extreme weather such as hurricanes and blizzards.
Another great example of how the Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi can provide wireless temperature monitoring comes from a local client of ours. They’re a small family-owned grocery store, and they keep a lot of stock in an outdoor freezer.
Since the freezer contains back stock and is outside of the store itself, there isn’t a lot of foot traffic in and out of the freezer. Previously, the store needed to send employees to check on the freezer to make sure it was within the required temperature range.
Now the store uses one of the Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi monitors, along with a Digital Fluid Temperature Sensor to monitor the freezer temperature over WiFi. Combined with our GoToMyDevices cloud monitoring platform, they can check in on the temperature any time, and will get immediate notification by email and text if the temperature exceeds the thresholds they set.
One of our product specialists recently worked with a new client who needed to monitor the temperature of the fuel in their backup generators. They’re located in a region that has very large sudden temperature drops, which can cause fuel in their backup generators to gel. If they were to lose power and the generators don’t kick on, they would stand to lose a large amount of revenue due to the ensuing downtime.
Given that the tanks are outside and a short distance away from their main buildings, this new client opted to install a Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi on each tank, along with a Digital Outdoor Temperature Sensor and Fuel Level Sensor. The tanks are close enough to the buildings to pick up their internal WiFi signals and the customer can use GoToMyDevices to log the temperature ranges over time.
Not only will this customer get immediate notification by text and email if the temperatures drop to a specified range, they can also monitor the temperatures rising and dropping. They are able to predict when the temperature ranges might get too close to the gelling point thanks to the data they’ve logged, and take the necessary steps to make sure that doesn’t happen. Using the Fuel Level Sensor, they can even be notified by email and text when the generator is running low on fuel.
We’ve previously mentioned the new lower price on the Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi, and right now we’re also offering a promotion on our Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi bundle. Any customer who’s looking to add wireless environment monitoring for their facility can get a free Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi when they purchase three units; the “Buy Three, Get One Free” promotion is currently running until December 31, 2016.
It’s been noted that almost 30% of revenue-losing outages are caused by environment factors. Don’t let your organization lose valuable time and money! If you’re monitoring your network and security, you should be monitoring your environment as well. The Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi is an inexpensive and easy way to add another layer of protection to your business.
Room Alert is environment monitoring made easy… don’t wait until it’s too late!
Note: The former GoToMyDevices online monitoring and management platform was migrated into RoomAlert.com in December 2017. For more information, please see our announcement article and FAQ.
