How To Upload Required Software To Your RoomAlert.com-Compatible Axis Camera (VIDEO)

In order for your compatible Axis camera to push data and images to your Room Alert Account, it must have the following installed:

– Axis camera firmware minimum version 5.60; maximum version 7.x. (8.x+ is not currently compatible.)

– Axis’ Video Motion Detection 3 application. (VMD 4 is not currently compatible.)

– AVTECH’s GoToMyDevices Image Push application.

Refer to our List Of Axis Cameras Compatible With RoomAlert.com to see if your camera can meet the above requirements.

If you haven’t yet discovered your compatible Axis camera, you may make the initial discovery with AVTECH’s Room Alert Manager software or with the manufacturer’s software, Axis IP Utility or Axis Camera Management. Please see this FAQ for more information: How To Discover Your Axis Camera.

First, check your Axis camera firmware.Next, install Axis Video Motion Detection 3.Finally, install AVTECH's Image Push Application

Your firmware must be between 5.60 and 7.x (inclusive). Version 8.x is not currently compatible.

1. Check your camera's firmware version.

Follow the instructions in this FAQ to find your camera’s firmware version: Where To Find The Firmware Version Of Your Axis Camera.

2: Install firmware between version 5.60 and 7.x (inclusive).

1. Find the firmware versions available for your model on the Axis web site: Firmware (Axis web site).

2. Choose the highest version between 5.60 and 7.x (inclusive).

3. Install that version on your camera using the unit’s web interface (HTTP) or Axis Camera Management software. The instructions on the Axis web site show you how:  How to upgrade… (Axis web site).

Next, install Axis Video Motion Detection 3 .

Your camera must have Video Motion Detection (VMD) 3.x installed. VMD 4 (or 2) is not compatible with our image push application.

1. Check your VMD version.

Once you’ve updated your compatible Axis camera to a version between 5.60 and 7.x, check to see what version of VMD is installed.

1. Select Setup at the top of the page of your camera’s web interface.

2. Select Applications from the navigation bar to the left.

3. Note the AXIS Video Motion Detection version in Installed Applications.

2. Download and install VMD 3.

If you don’t see VMD 3 in Applications, follow these steps to get it:

1. Navigate to the Axis Video Motion Detection – Download page in your web browser at Axis.com.

2.  Scroll down to the Download Video Motion Detection 3 section in that page and select the yellow Download button.

3. When the Axis_Video_Motion_Detection_3.eap file finishes downloading, save it somewhere you can easily find.

4. In your camera’s web interface, under Upload Application, select Browse (or Choose File).

5. In the window that opens, navigate to the Axis_Video_Motion_Detection_3.eap file and double-click on it to load it.

6. Then, in Upload Application, select Upload Package.

7. AXIS Video Motion Detection (version 3.x) should now appear in your Installed Applications list.

3. Remove other versions of VMD.

If you have VMD versions other than 3 in Applications, remove them.

1. Highlight Axis Video Motion Detection 4 (or Axis Video Motion Detection 2) by clicking on it once.

2. Select Remove.

4. Start VMD 3.

Highlight AXIS Video Motion Detection 3 by clicking on it once and then select Start to start the application. (It will immediately go into the Idle state after you start it.)

Finally, install AVTECH’s Image Push Application.

In order to have access to the image push application, you must have a Room Alert Account at the Professional level or higher. Please see this FAQ for account upgrade instructions: How To Upgrade Your RoomAlert.com Account.

1. Download GoToMyDevices Image Push application.

1. Log in to your Professional (or higher) account at RoomAlert.com.

2. Select Downloads in the navigation bar to the left.

3. Scroll down to the Axis Cameras section and select the green Download button.

4. When the GTMDImagePush.zip folder finishes downloading, save it somewhere you can easily find.

2. Determine which .eap file you need.

1. Navigate to the file you just downloaded and extract its contents using a compression program like 7-Zip, WinZip or WinRar.

2. Open the extracted folder, in which you’ll find 4 .eap files. (“x_x” stands for the version number.)

3. Determine which file you need for your camera by referring to this chart: List Of Axis Cameras Compatible With RoomAlert.com.

3. Upload GoToMyDevices Image Push firmware to your compatible Axis camera.

1. In your camera’s web interface, select Setup in the navigation bar at the top of the page.

2. Then select Applications in the navigation bar to the left.

3. In Upload Application, select Browse (or Choose File).

4. In the window that opens, navigate to the correct .eap file and double-click on it to load it.

5. Then, in Upload Application, select Upload Package.

6. You should then see GoToMyDevices Image Push listed in your Installed Applications list. Select it by clicking on it once.

7. Then select Start to start the GoToMyDevices Image Push application.

8. You’ll see the status for both the Axis Video Motion Detection and GoToMyDevices Image Push change to Running.

Once you have VMD 3 and GoToMyDevices Image Push running, your camera will push its first status update to your Room Alert Account. (Note that status updates do not include images.)

    Start--> All Programs--> Accessories--> Command Prompt
  • Windows 10
    Start--> All Apps--> Windows System--> Command Prompt

To run Windows Command Prompt as an administrator:

  • Windows 7 & 8
    Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
  • Windows 10
    Right-click on Command Prompt, select More and then select Run as administrator.

If you are using this client, you should configure the general SNMPv3 Credentials, but leave the Read / Write SNMPv3 Credentials section blank.
