Room Alert and SNMP Software Compatibility

One of the questions our Product Specialists are often asked by new customers is if Room Alert hardware can be monitored with their existing SNMP tools. SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is widely used by many organizations to monitor everything from routers and switches, to servers and desktops, to printers and cameras and everything in between… including Room Alert!

Room Alert includes two different software options in RoomAlert.com and Device ManageR. Both local software and cloud-based monitoring are bundled free of charge so our users have their choice of platforms to use for alerting, monitoring, logging, and reporting. Users can opt to use both at the same time, or they may use one over the other due to specific local policy or needs.

Some new users come to us with a monitoring platform already in place. We’re seeing more organizations already using dedicated software to centralize their network, server, and appliance monitoring and reporting. This makes a lot of sense for organizations with a large number of nodes to keep an eye on, and naturally they want to make sure Room Alert can seamlessly integrate into their existing platform.

We offer downloadable MIB files for all of our Room Alert models (save for the Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi) which allows them to communicate with nearly every SNMP monitoring platform currently in use. This allows organizations to quickly and easily integrate Room Alert into their existing SNMP software platform, and continue to take advantage of Room Alert’s proactive monitoring and reporting capabilities.

A sample list of SNMP software monitoring packages Room Alert is compatible with include:

• Big Brother
• WhatsUp Gold
• LogicMonitor
• IBM Tivoli
• HP OpenView
• And many others that support importing a MIB file for new devices.

As noted above, the Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi does not have third party SNMP monitoring available; that particular Room Alert was designed to interface directly with RoomAlert.com for alerting and logging purposes. However, for organizations that need monitoring in small or hard to reach places, the Room Alert 3E does offer both SNMP monitoring as well as PoE, in the same compact package.
