How To Create Alerts In Your Room Alert Monitor’s Web Interface

You may configure alerts for your Room Alert Monitor in one or more of the following ways:

To configure alerts in your Room Alert Monitor’s web interface, follow these steps:

First, set up your mail server.

  • Room Alert ‘S’ models and MAX Base Stations support secure encryption for mail servers.
  • Room Alert ‘E’ models do not support secure encryption. If your mail server requires SSL or TLS, you may use the Room Alert Manager software instead to set up your email alerts, or you may use your Room Alert Account for email alerts, which does not require any mail server setup.
Next, set sensor thresholds.

  1. First, open the Base Station’s web interface.
    You may do this by typing its IP address directly into your browser’s URL.

  2. Log In to the web interface.
    For help, please see How To Open Your Room Alert Monitor’s Built-in Web Interface.
  3. Navigate to Alerts.
  4. Create an alert threshold.
    • Under Alert Conditions, click the +New Threshold button.
  5. A New Alert window will open.
    • The alert label defaults to “New Alert X.” You may instead enter your own label.
    • Select your sensor from the drop-down menu.
    • The options that appear next depend on the type of sensor/adapter you’ve selected.
      • Options may include sensor channel, operator, value, etc.
    • When you’re done select Save.
  6. The saved alert threshold will appear in the Alert Conditions table.
    • Don’t see your saved alert? Use the < and > icons in the table’s upper right corner to navigate between pages of list items.
  7. (Optional) You can also configure your MAX Base Station to trigger an alert if your sensor stops reporting new data or reports a Low battery level. To do so, click the corresponding checkboxes to enable them.
    • Note that only sensors with at least 1 saved threshold get monitored for disconnection and battery alerts.
  8. Create one or more recipients to be notified when any alert triggers.
    • Under Recipients, click the +New Recipient button.
  9. A New Recipient window will open.
    • Give your recipient a label.
    • Enter the email address where you’d like the alert notifications to be sent.
    • When you’re done select Save.
  10. The saved recipient will appear in the Recipients table.
    • Don’t see your saved recipient? Use the < and > icons in the table’s upper right corner to navigate between pages of list items.
  1. Open your Room Alert Monitor’s web interface through one of Room Alert’s discovery utilities. You may also type the IP address of the unit directly into the address bar of your web browser.
  2. Select Settings in the navigation bar to the left.
    If you’re working with a Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi, select Alert Options at the top of the page.
  3. This will open the Sensor Settings page.
  4. Here, you can configure thresholds for internal & external digital sensors and set the Alarm On value for switch sensors.

    Digital Sensors

    • In the example below, we will configure a Digital Temperature Sensor:
      • In Sensor Label, you may leave the default label, “Internal Sensor” (or “Ext. Sensor 1,” etc.) or rename it to something more descriptive, such as “Server Rm Temp.”
      • In High and Low, you may leave the default, 0, or enter values for high and low temperature thresholds. Your Room Alert will generate alerts based on these thresholds.

      Switch Sensors

      • You may configure the alert state for the external switch sensors in the Switch Sensor Settings fields. Shown below are the default settings.
      • Your Room Alert monitors your switch sensors for an “Open” or “Closed” circuit state. Room Alert defaults to alarming on “Closed,” as you can see above; you may, however, need to change that depending on your sensor. AVTECH’s Motion Sensor, for example, is “Open” when it detects movement and “Closed” when it doesn’t; in that case, you’d likely want to configure the sensor to alarm on “Open” or when motion is detected.
      • To determine the alarm and clear state of your sensor, you may either refer to its Installation Note or check our Frequently Asked Question, What Open & Closed States Mean In AVTECH Switch Sensors.
      • After you’ve checked what “Open” and “Closed” mean on your switch sensor, configure the following options:
        • In Sensor Label, you may leave the default, “Switch 1” (2, 3 or 4) or enter something more descriptive, such as “Ext Motion” or “Main Entry.”
        • In Alarm On, select the alarm state (Open or Closed). In our example, the alarm state is Open.
          • If you’re not using a switch port, choose Disabled from the Alarm On drop-down menu to avoid confusion or false alerts.

      1. When you’re done setting your sensor thresholds, select Save Settings. Your Room Alert will automatically reboot and commit your changes.
      Finally, test your alerts.

      Trigger an alert, and check that you receive the expected alert notification.

      For an external temperature sensor, for example, you can hold the sensor probe in your hand to warm it above the High temperature threshold.

      Another option is to save a High threshold that is below the sensor’s current reading. When the unit reboots, the sensor will immediately be in alarm state, which will cause the Room Alert Monitor to send an alert notification.

      Please note that if you then save a new High threshold that’s above the current reading, this will not cause the Room Alert to send a clear notification. Clear notification are only sent when a sensor value physically changes from an alarm state to a clear state, not when a new setting is saved.

      • Windows 7 & 8
        Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
      • Windows 10
        Right-click on Command Prompt, select More and then select Run as administrator.

      If you are using this client, you should configure the general SNMPv3 Credentials, but leave the Read / Write SNMPv3 Credentials section blank.
