Late Sunday December 13, 2020, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued an emergency directive recommending that all organizations currently using SolarWinds Orion products thoroughly review their networks to see if they have been compromised, as well as recommending the powering down of all SolarWinds Orion products immediately.
Many Room Alert users around the world rely on third party SNMP monitoring platforms such as SolarWinds Orion to monitor their Room Alert monitors and sensors. Under the current directive from CISA, powering down SolarWinds Orion may negatively impact the ability for organizations to monitor their network and devices to prevent data loss and unexpected IT downtime.
Room Alert users do have other options available to monitor their installed Room Alert hardware and receive alerts should there be any potential environmental issues detected that could cause unexpected downtime to their network or facilities. We are recommending that any Room Alert customers that currently use SolarWinds Orion products immediately investigate the following options for Room Alert monitoring, alerting, graphing, and reporting:
Given the current CISA directive, we would like to remind our customers that Room Alert devices have purpose-built firmware that does not rely on commonly available code or software packages; Room Alert firmware is custom designed in-house by AVTECH to work with Room Alert monitors only.
We also recommend that customers who are concerned about hardware security, sensor data privacy, and secure access should investigate our Room Alert PRO line of monitors. The Room Alert PRO line offers HTTPS, authenticated firmware updates, 2048-bit encryption, SNMP v3, TLS email and more.
If any customers have questions about Room Alert monitors and their security, our Sr Product Specialists as well as our US-based Support team are available to help. Feel free to contact us directly if you would like to speak with us further.
