Today we are excited to celebrate International Data Center Day for the third year. Here at AVTECH, our team views today as an opportunity to educate people on what data centers are, why they are important, and how to improve productivity and minimize downtime in data centers around the world. A data center is “a physical facility that organizations use to house their critical applications and data.” Every single thing we do online, such as reading this article, lives on a computer. Those computers and other valuable tech equipment all live in data centers. Data centers are important because, in today’s technological world, everyone uses data. Our goal by participating in International Data Center Day is to emphasize the significance in protecting data centers and preventing costly downtime with our Room Alert environment monitoring.
Any business, organization or facility that relies on data needs to be sure of two key components. One is that their data centers are up and running at all times. If your business goes down for even just a few minutes, you can quickly be facing thousands of dollars in lost revenue, a soiled reputation or even bankruptcy. Secondly, data centers need to keep their data safe and secure. Data centers and the services they provide are absolutely critical to all modern-day business operations. We are extremely proud to offer proactive and secure Room Alert environment monitoring products that help prevent costly downtime in data centers, server rooms and tech facilities.
Roughly 30% of all business downtime is caused by environment-related factors such as high temperatures and humidity, power loss, water damage and flooding. Any unexpected circumstance, such as a prolonged power outage in your data center, can allow room for security breaches, unhappy customers or even having to close your doors for good. Luckily with Room Alert installed in your data centers and IT facilities, you can prevent and minimize the impact of environmental downtime. Room Alert works by connecting environmental monitoring hardware to online account services and software that will proactively oversee all of the conditions in your data center.
If Room Alert detects that the temperature/ humidity is too high, power has been lost, or a water pipe is leaking, it will promptly notify your IT team via text or email. For example, if the temperature or humidity is too high, your data center is at serious risk for equipment overheating/failure, irreversible data loss, warping of materials and hardware corrosion.
The Room Alert product offering is comprised of monitors, sensors, accessories and online services that all work together to give you a comprehensive view of the conditions in your environment and help you respond as quickly as possible to small threats that could unfold to horrendous disasters.
Data protection is of the utmost importance for data centers, in order to prevent data loss and irreversible damage. Our Room Alert PRO Line of monitors was designed with a particular emphasis on data encryption, data security, secure connections and cybersecurity, so it is the most ideal monitoring solution for data centers and tech facilities. Our Room Alert PRO Line consists of the Room Alert 32S, 12S and 3S. All three of these Room Alert monitors are engineered with a common firmware platform but vary in sensor capacity so you are able to find a perfect fit for any size data center.
We have a wide range of sensor options that can monitor for all kinds of environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, power, flood, smoke, fire, motion, room entry, air flow and more. All of our sensors are compatible with all of our Room Alert monitors, so together you’re able to have an accurate view into your data center. For example, with our Digital Temperature and Humidity Sensor installed, users are able to monitor for 4 different conditions; temperature, humidity, dew point, and heat index. These account for 50% of all environmental downtime.
To support Room Alert hardware, we have Room Alert Account and Room Alert Manager services to take our proactive environment monitoring to the next level. Room Alert Account lays out a complete dashboard where users can benefit from useful features such as maps of their registered devices, a log of their triggered alarm history, a list of configured alerts, detailed reports with overlays showing sensor history across devices and much more.
For those on the Professional tier of Room Alert Account or higher, users can also download our Room Alert Manager software. Room Alert Manager is a robust all-in-one solution for the discovery, management, monitoring, alerting, logging, graphing and automatic action of Room Alert environment monitoring products.
Room Alert is the perfect tool for protecting data and sensitive computer equipment in data centers. If your data center follows ASHRAE recommendations, you can configure Room Alert to send a text or email if your data center creeps outside of the ASHRAE Recommended Temperature & Humidity Ranges. By being promptly alerted to changes in your environment, you’re able to take corrective action as soon as possible and stop costly downtime in its tracks.
Room Alert environment monitoring provides peace of mind in data centers so even when you don’t have eyes on-site, you can depend on Room Alert to ensure uptime and productivity.
